Exit Level: (Final Bow to ENGLCOM)

              Not all of us love English; not all of us love to write or to read. But when you have an ENGLCOM course, there will you know that you have your own competency when it comes to English. Definitely, each of every one of us has its own competency in reading and writing in English.

             I also have my competency in writing which I acquired in ENGLCOM course, and that is I am now writing an introduction deductively and clearly-stated. It is easy for us to say that when you are writing, you only need your paper together with your pen, and your thoughts and feelings. But then, there are so many guidelines that we should follow in writing. I know that there are lots of skills that I have improved on or skills that I have only now as I learning in my ENGLCOM course.

             I stated clearly on my first reflective essay that one of my weaknesses or my weakest area in writing is writing serious or formal essays. But as time goes by in our ENGLCOM course, I notice that I can write a serious or formal writings. It is just I need it to practice to write formal essays until I got better. I improved this weakness by means of writing and writing and writing formal essays. And the good thing is we have guide in our ENGLCOM course, our professor, he is the one who would correct us if there is something wrong in our work. Because it is very important for the learners to have their teachers, because without it they will never know whether they are wrong or right.

                  It is a big pleasure for me that I met my expectations in this ENGLCOM course; I really learned a lot. Here, in this course, improved my learning before and it adds many information that I have known before. The good thing here in this course is that you will not only meet your expectations, even those things that you are not expected to learn will come and it will surely gain your knowledge. That is why, I am pretty sure that it will help me a lot me in reaching my goals that I want to achieve someday.

                  ENGLCOM is a very good and enjoyable course to experience. Even though it is boring for most of the people, I am pretty sure that if they will experience it, they will be satisfied so much, in a way that the learning they will learn and the knowledge they will gain will help them in their lives; not speaking literally; it will be helpful in their lives in achieving their own goals. 

Although Essay

Although many people think that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life are entirely harmless, in fact, they actually prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals.

                           Nowadays, plenty of luxuries and conveniences appear in our society, some of them even have a great impact on our life. Most people think luxuries and conveniences only have positive effect. Yet, in my view, the effect of luxuries and conveniences is positive if people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals.

                         In the first place, luxuries and conveniences has highly facilitated people’ lives, which is also the primary purpose of our sciences and technology. Making people more pleasure and convenience is to a large extent the driving force of creation and innovation. A good many examples could support the advantage of luxuries and conveniences. We can arrive in another city in less than one hour by advance vehicle like high-speed train or car, which has facilitated the transportation and business between these two cities. People could communicate with each other more convenient than before because of the emergence of instant message tools like MSN, email. In the meanwhile, workers in a factory do not need to stand by the machine due to the appearance of high-tech automatic machines.  Thus, it is very convenient for people today to live, to study, and to work.

                       Nevertheless, these luxuries or conveniences will result in some negative effect. Sometimes it is so convenient that we convenient that we have no incentive to explore and progress any more. Or some people will lose themselves after obsessed in the luxuries. Today, everything you desire could be procured by typing some relevant words in Google search or Yahoo. On one hand, it is very convenient because almost all our requirements could be satisfactorily met, on the other hand, we don’t need to memorize nearly anything. Unfortunately, many capacities for reasoning and summarizing, especially for studying history and literature, resort to the memory of large amount of evidences. Thus relying too much on internet is harmful for student to cultivate independent individuals. Electronic game is also a paragon. Many of my classmates play electronic game from day to night, they have been deeply attracted by the excitement produced by these games, and don’t care about the world outside the game any further. Not mention to say strong and independent individuals.

                      Admittedly, if we could exploit these conveniences and luxuries appropriately, they will be considerably helpful for our lives and studies. Concerning the prevailing of internet, nowadays, students could acquire nearly all the data he need on internet. Video-class is also very popular for student could learn what they want at home. Meanwhile, as the development of electronic business, it has significantly benefit people’s life. You could buy almost everything on line with the same effect as you go to a supermarket. But it could save your time to a large measure. Accordingly, whether internet could assume a positive role or not is entirely determined by how people use it.

                      In sum, if people could take advantage of luxuries and conveniences reasonably, they will be very helpful to us. By contrast, luxuries and conveniences will prevent from developing their strong and independent individuals so long as we merely enjoy the pleasure and facilitation given by these luxuries and conveniences without further thinking and progress.

Essay( Jacques Cousteau)

                       Many Americans might never have known of the French scientist Jacques Cousteau if it had not been for his documentary series The Undersea Worlds of Jacques Cousteau. At first, television viewers were interested only in the subject matter of the film which introduced them to the undersea world. Cousteau refers to as ” inner space”. But as they continued watching these documentaries, many viewers became interested not only in the subject matter, but also in the background of this unusual man. Jacques Cousteau is to be admired because of his inventiveness, his contribution to marine science, and his dedication to his field.

                       Of these admirable characteristics, Cousteau’s inventiveness has assisted him most in his desire to explore the new world of inner space. First, the aqua-lung that he invented has proved to be a valuable piece of marine equipment for exploration of the undersea world because it enables underwater explorers to breathe without the assistance of air hoses from the surface. The aqua-lung, carried on the back of the diver, allows more freedom of movement than did the underwater devices of the past. With the aqua-lung and a water light camera, Cousteau has been able to explore ocean depths that had not previously been explored. He has also invented other types of marine equipment, such as the mini-sub and personal diving equipment. In addition, he was the first to use underwater television to maintain contact between divers in the water and scientists aboard the ship and to use the bathyscaph, which enabled him to make observations two miles below the surface of the sea. Cousteau’s inventiveness has really made inner space a new frontier.

                      Cousteau is to be admired not only for his inventiveness, but also for his many contributions to marine science. Two of his books, The Silent World, written in 1953, and The Living Sea, written in 1963, describe his experiences exploring the ocean depths and make millions aware of the importance of marine science ion our modern world. He also made a film  documentary on the Galapagos Islands and made one of its inhabitants, the marine iguana, important to marine science because of its ability to slow down and even to stop its own heart beat. Another film documentary explains some of the sperm whale’s behavioral characteristics, such as its grouping and mating habits. The purpose of this documentary was to help prevent this mammal from becoming extinct. Other fascinating film documentaries produced by Cousteau which help to explain the undersea world are those on the sea otter, the bottle-nosed dolphin, the octopus, and the ecology of reefs around the world.

Comparison

              As of now, there are two female authors, each with a successful novel series and movie adaptations that have attracted millions of fans worldwide. They are Stephanie Meyer and J.K Rowling. Their success is purely inevitable. Even though Meyer’s Twilight is vastly different than Rowling’s Harry Potter, both contain the element that caught the attentions of many. They pulled books and movies that created huge fan bases and produce countless merchandise that bought by fans. Meyer and Rowling also, in their novels, worked on fantasy, on imagination, on adventure and on love that made their readers more curious, more interested and find reading more pleasurable. Both Twilight and Harry Potter books centered around universal themes of self-discovery, the struggles of coming of ages as young teens and adults, and the often virgin confrontation of issues such as evil, racial divides, love, friendship, loyalty, and the complexities and emotional turmoil within relationships. These two authors, albeit both successful in writing fantasy novels that mostly targets teens, are different yet similar. They created two of the most successful book series, Harry Potter and Twilight.      

Skeletal Anatomy of the Vertebrates

                      Last week, I studied the skeletal anatomy of the sharks. It took me 3 days before I could memorized its parts. I can say that the shark was the easiest among what I had studied. After studying the shark, I started with the cat. It was the most difficult and has lots of parts. I didn’t study it just for a day, it took me days before I could finish it. During our comparative anatomy class, the bones of the vertebrates there were completely fixed. I can see where do it belong. Spending 3 hours in the laboratory gave me more time to focus in studying other vertebrate animals. By giving all my heart in memorizing, I can enjoy and will have fun in studying it.

Definition

                 Life is all about choices. Every single day, we are faced with a challenge that requires some thought, requiring a final decision. Most of the time, we stop, think and choose. Then we go about our daily routine with little after thought. But sometimes, we make really poor choices, that we spend weeks and maybe months beating ourselves up over the bad decision. Every failure builds character. We learn self-control, we look at the entire picture before choosing and we get glimpse of how our actions(and reactions) affect those around us. We learn responsibility and we become seasoned veterans. Down the road, some of our choices become the chooser. If we choose to marry, then the rest of our choices will probably be a result of that original choice. This applies to anything, if we choose to become parents, then our subsequent decisions will be required to make decisions throughout our entire life.
